Sequences that branch on modifier keys or on combat conditions now show a colored indicator on the action button so you can see which variant is active right now without checking the editor. A new Variants subtab in the sequence editor sets up per-variant behavior. The matching subpanel toggle lives in General settings.
GRIP-EMS v2.1.8
Released May 31, 2026. 24 entries in the author's notes.

Added
7Different talent loadouts can now hold different keybinds for the same sequence. Swap loadout and the keybind set swaps with it. Set them through the sequence editor or with the new --loadout slash argument.
A native sequence can declare which other sequences it depends on. Forking a sequence carries the dependency tag forward so the chain stays intact. The Advanced Export now includes a Macros section that round-trips dependency metadata through import and export.
General settings has an opt-in toggle that reloads the UI when a sequence variable apply is queued but out of combat. The /gems apply slash command works for in-combat or scripted use; the empty queue case prints a clear "Nothing queued." message instead of failing silently.
A Redo button sits next to Undo in the CVar Health panel. If you back out of a CVar change and then change your mind, you do not have to retype the previous value.
A new General setting lets you pick a modifier (Shift, Control, or Alt) that pauses the active sequence while you hold it. The sequence stops on its current step and casts nothing until you let go, then continues from the same step. Handy when an auto-repeat is driving the sequence and you want to slip in a modifier-key ability without losing your place.
Right-click any step in the sequence editor and choose Disable Step. It stays in the list, greyed and marked "(off)", keeping its position, but is skipped when the sequence runs -- so you can A/B test a rotation with and without one step without deleting it. Re-enable it from the same menu.
Changed
5ESCAPE in any EMS Settings subpanel now dismisses any open EMS popup first, then closes the panel. TAB, Shift+TAB, the number keys, ENTER, and SPACE reach their targets without focus drifting to the Settings window chrome.
The sequence health panel now reports tightness and complexity as separate scores. A tightly packed but logically simple sequence reads correctly instead of scoring lower because the two were combined.
Tempo readings now smooth across short input gaps instead of jumping when one slow sample lands, and they settle faster after a burst of activity.
The "reload required" pip in the Settings sidebar now anchors to the relevant category button. It stays put when the category list scrolls instead of drifting to the wrong row.
The condition tests for non-player aura iteration, target debuff handling, and spell-on-cooldown lookups now widen their candidate pools (focus / pet / party units, broader spell list) and route through /gems test prep, which prints a one-time checklist of in-game prerequisites for full coverage. Suites previously logged five environmental SKIPs on a fresh login; after the prep walkthrough the same suite reports zero skips.
Fixed
11Macros, export, import and sharing3
The Source/Raw tab now shows the author BattleTag as "<hidden>" instead of in clear text. The value stays stored locally (it backs author identity) and was already never included in shared or exported sequences.
Activating, importing, or refreshing a sequence with multi-line Key Press / Key Release no longer spams chat with repeated "Key Press: X of N lines fit (255-char limit)" lines. The warning fired on every internal rebuild and was a false alarm for most sequences: those lines already run from each step's macro, so the action-bar stub no longer keeps its own redundant copy.
Hover state on the spell, item, macro, and slash pickers no longer flickers on rapid open and close. Empty results now show a clear empty-state message instead of a momentary blank panel.
Repair and spell warnings3
A step like /use 13 (top trinket) showed the slot number resolved to a spell name, so the row displayed a spell instead of the slot. Slot numbers after /use now display as written. The stored macro was always correct and the trinket still fired; only the on-screen label was wrong.
A standard trinket macro pairs #showtooltip 13 with /use 13. The validator read the 13 as a spell and warned about a stale tooltip on a macro that was fine. Numeric slot numbers after #showtooltip are now skipped. #showtooltip Fireball and other named tooltips still validate.
Sequences imported or shared before this fix could have a trinket slot stored as a spell name instead of the slot number, so the step did nothing in game (you own no item by that name). Right-click a sequence and run Repair, or /gems repair, to find these and rewrite them back to the slot number. A correctly stored /use 13 is left alone.
Keybinds and the conflict panel2
Editing a sequence in the Source/Raw tab and clicking Apply used to rebuild it from a limited field set, silently dropping Key Press / Key Release lines, the action tree, and context overrides. Apply now preserves the whole sequence and changes only what you edited.
Unbinding a keybind on an account that uses per-loadout keybinds now actually removes the binding. The new per-loadout overlay was not being cleared by the Unbind action, so the binding would reappear when the sequence was re-read.
Resets and modifiers1
Reloading the UI inside an arena, a Mythic+ run, or a raid encounter could drop saved sequences and macros, and the loss stuck across a game restart. WoW blocks the protected setup a sequence needs for the whole restricted window; the blocked setup used to send the sequence to the corrupt-sequence prompt, whose Delete removed it for good. Sequences now stay in your saved data when that setup is blocked, and they re-arm on their own once the restriction lifts, with no second /reload needed. A one-time message tells you when sequences are paused for this reason.
Variables and recommendations1
Variables whose names contain an underscore (for example combat_check_var) now substitute correctly in macrotext. Previously the substitution scan skipped these names while the create / edit UI accepted them, so the literal ~var_name~ survived into the final macrotext and the cast failed silently. Underscore names also now travel with sequence exports and convert correctly from legacy double-tilde syntax on import.
Everything else1
The internal identifier the addon uses to tell one character's sequences apart from another's no longer collides across characters on the same account. Sequence-specific settings stay attached to the right character after a relog.
Known limitations
1While an EMS Settings subpanel is shown, ESCAPE is captured by EMS for keyboard navigation and dismissal of EMS's own dialogs. If another addon opens a popup over the EMS Settings panel, click that popup's Cancel or Close button directly. ESCAPE will not reach it until you close the EMS Settings subpanel.
